Male seborrheic alopecia (seborrheic hair loss)
Male seborrheic alopecia (seborrheic hair loss)
Seborrheic hair loss is a form of premature hair loss that generally afflicts men in their youth (onset between 20 and 30 years of age), mainly affecting the frontal region and the crown.
Cause
The cause, as the name of the condition suggests, is related to an excess production of sebum that provokes or accelerates hair loss. Excess sebaceous gland activity is caused by hormonal imbalances or by an enzyme named 5-alpha reductase, which converts testosterone into dihydrotestosterone (DHT). The quantity of these converting enzymes and receptors that capture the androgens (testosterone) present on the scalp varies from case to case and influences the amount of sebum that is produced. The seriousness of the seborrheic hair loss depends on how the enzymes and receptors are distributed on the scalp.
Symptoms
The symptoms that accompany seborrheic hair loss are itchiness, scalp pain and greasy dandruff that flakes.
Chemical drugs treatment
Finasteride is a 5-alpha reductase inhibitor that is used for the treatment of hair loss. The drug blocks the action of 5-alpha-reductase, an enzyme responsible for converting testosterone into dihydrotestosterone. The two commonly available 5-alpha-reductase inhibitor medications available, Finasteride and Dutasteride, increase testosterone levels while simultaneously reducing levels of dihydrotestosterone.
This is significant because men with increased levels of dihydrotestosterone may suffer from androgenetic alopecia, a condition commonly referred to as male pattern baldness. But the chemical drugs are accompanied by the risk of possible side effects.
Traditional Chinese Medicinal (TCM) treatment
The traditional Chinese medicine disclosed by the invention has the effects of inducing resuscitation, refreshing, activating qi-flowing, expelling stagnation, suppressing hyperactive liver, invigorating kidney, disinfecting, sterilizing, benefiting qi, activating blood, opening pores, nourishing scalp and regenerating hair. The traditional Chinese medicine has a special hair regeneration efficacy against seborrheic alopecia caused by hormonal imbalances.
In TCM, damp-heat may lead to instability of skin interstices, obstruction of meridians, and inhibited generation of essence and blood. For this reason, seborrheic alopecia patients with this diagnostic pattern typically have hair loss due to loose hair roots and inhibited growth of new hair.
The treatment in TCM focuses on strengthening the spleen, clearing damp-heat, and improving regrowth of hair.
The histologic study shows that the production of sebum is greatly reduced and the condition of the hair follicle is strikingly improved. It’s a traditional Chinese medicine for treating seborrheic alopecia.
The traditional Chinese medicine realizes scientific compatibility of various active ingredients of the traditional Chinese medicine , has the advantages of fast onset of action, no toxicity or side effects and lasting effects and can relieve the suffering of a patient to a relatively great extent.
